#KEBBITALES (SET 2) - Land Of Equity
02:43
The state slogan for Kebbi State is Land of Equity. As corps members, we often made jokes about how 'equity' must mean equality between man and animal. The reason for this is that besides the fact that there's a lot of pastoral farming activity within the state, there also seems to be some sort of unspoken rule about respect for animals, all across the state. I haven't been to too many northern Nigerian states but in comparison to Kaduna state where I made a trip to about 2 years back (and let me add, by train from Lagos), I'd say animals are given special treatment in Kebbi.
Common sense tells you to slow down when you see a cattle or sheep herd crossing the road while you're driving, but in Kebbi, drivers would often come to a complete stop and without any hurry wait for the last animal to be on the other side of the road before resuming their journey.
One particular day while on the road, we saw a crowd had gathered a few meters ahead so we slowed our vehicle wondering if some one had been involved in an accident. On getting to the scene, I realized the gathering was even much larger than I had seen from a distance, say about 30 people. After several attempts to peek through to see how badly the person was hit, I saw laying on the ground a half-dead calf!
It didn't mean that I didn't eat cute rabbits like this one though! Interestingly also in some parts like Dabai, dogs and pigs are reared for meat.
Thank you for stopping by here. Unlike on the other social media platforms,
here there is more room for telling of stories and expression of thoughts.
So expect to hear new sides to some of these stories you already know.

It's true as animals are seen as investment and sometimes Spiritual symbols. Your revelation of you eating a 'cute' rabbit made the whoLe reading awkward. Good work!
